Welcome to the website of the FVB

We are a network of professional arts therapy associations. We have seven affiliated associations: the Dutch Associations for/of

  • (Visual) Arts Therapy
  • Dance Therapy
  • Drama Therapy
  • Music Therapy
  • Psychomotricity
  • Child Psychomotricity
  • Play therapists

Together these associations represent over 3,000 members. Arts therapy practitioners who are a member of a professional association affiliated with us, have all completed a certified training at bachelor or master level in higher vocational education, or at university level.

As FVB, we are committed to establishing a good positioning of the field of arts therapies and its practitioners at a national and regional and/or local level. We do so by means of advocacy, quality promotion and knowledge innovation.

Representation of interests

There are national developments that affect all disciplines. As FVB, we represent the collective interests of all arts therapists. This includes lobbying with relevant parties, participating in relevant meetings, giving presentations and collaborating with parties. Furthermore, we inform our members about developments, members have the opportunity to ask questions, and we make relevant documents available to members via the website. In addition, we as FVB strive to ensure that the profession and professionals are properly presented. Individual members can get legal assistance, if necessary.

We are affiliated to the FBZ, a Dutch employee organization for highly skilled professionals in the health care sector. FBZ conducts the collective labour agreements to obtain good employment conditions for employees in the care sector, on behalf of the FVB and other affiliated parties. FBZ also negotiates on behalf of us in mergers or reorganisations in the organizations where our members work. These agreements are recorded in a social plan.

As FVB, we want to continue to enhance the quality of the arts therapy professionals. To this end, we have developed various tools. For example, a professional code for arts therapists, a competency profile, or a visitation program. When it comes to the quality of young professionals, the education programs play an important role. As FVB, we therefore work together with various training institutes and academies. Via the Register Vaktherapie (Register of Arts Therapies), we guarantee the quality of the practice of registered arts therapists.

Knowledge Innovation

Continuous knowledge innovation ensures a continuous development of the profession. In addition, research into the effect of arts therapies is important. Financers such as municipalities and health insurers are increasingly critical and want to see evidence for the effects of the arts therapeutic interventions. In this context, FVB stimulates research. We achieve this by applying a strategic research agenda, among other things. It is also important that arts therapies are well defined, in order to ensure that everyone understands what arts therapy means. That is why we, as FVB, have focused on, among other things, a quality standard for arts therapies and the description of arts therapeutic interventions in products and modules. In addition, there are a number of FVB Knowledge Networks currently active. In these networks, arts therapists from different disciplines unite around a specific theme. Within these networks the exchange of knowledge is key. As FVB we support these knowledge networks.
